Fort Wayne will not pause data-center approvals or create a new review commission, according to official City Council minutes for Oct. 13 that were posted Oct. 16.

The proposed Community Infrastructure & Environmental Review Commission failed on a 3-5 vote. Rohli Booker, Russ Jehl and Geoff Paddock voted in favor, while Martin Bender, Michelle Chambers, Paul Ensley, Nathan Hartman and Scott Myers voted against it.

A separate proposal for a one-year moratorium on certain data-center approvals failed on a 4-4 vote. Ensley joined Booker, Jehl and Paddock in favor, with Bender, Chambers, Hartman and Myers opposed and Thomas Freistroffer absent.

The votes do not end the city's work on data-center rules. The Oct. 19 Plan Commission agenda lists a request to initiate a Data Center Zoning Ordinance Amendment. Initiating that process would begin work on new standards; it would not by itself adopt standards or impose a moratorium.

The Plan Commission meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Room 030 at Citizens Square, 200 East Berry Street.
