Two people were killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash involving two semi trucks on Interstate 65 in White County, according to Indiana State Police.
Police say the crash happened just before 4 p.m. near the 194 mile marker. In the preliminary investigation, a northbound tractor-trailer traveling in the left lane left the roadway, entered the median and crossed into the southbound lanes.
The northbound truck struck a southbound tractor-trailer that was also traveling in the left lane. Both vehicles came to rest blocking the southbound lanes, and those lanes were closed while investigators worked at the scene.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts, police said. A third person who was riding in one of the trucks was taken from the scene by EMS for medical treatment.
State police said the crash remains under active investigation, and the reason the northbound truck left the roadway has not yet been determined.
